Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge® Reports examine the pro bono performance of signatories to the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge initiative. Signatories to the Challenge have committed to contribute 3 or 5 percent (or at a few firms, 60 or 100 hours per attorney) of their annual total paying client billable hours to legal pro bono services as defined by the Challenge and report their performance to the PBI Law Firm Pro Bono Project initiative each year.
Overall, pro bono performance remained relatively consistent, with slight dips in some key metrics that reversed gains made in 2024, alongside encouraging increases in other important measures of pro bono commitment. In 2025, 116 firms reported performing an aggregated total of 5.14 million hours of pro bono work, compared to 4.92 million hours reported by 114 firms in 2024.

Corporate Pro Bono Challenge® Reports examine the pro bono performance of signatories to the Corporate Pro Bono (CPBO) Challenge initiative. Signatories to the CPBO Challenge initiative have committed to encourage at least 50 percent of their legal department staff to engage in legal pro bono services annually and report their performance to the CPBO project each year.
The 2026 Corporate Pro Bono Challenge Report, based on 2025 data from reporting Challenge signatories. Overall participation increased in 2025 for both U.S. lawyers and legal staff at responding legal departments, with global pro bono engagement and collaboration with law firm partners also growing. The 2026 Report also coincides with the 20th Anniversary of the Corporate Pro Bono Challenge initiative and highlights the evolution of in-house pro bono into a standardized component of legal department culture and practice.
